I found this red metal piece glimmering in the field across the road after the hemp farmer’s harvest, right around this time the Monarchs were traveling to Mexico. Unfortunately, a few didn’t make it past my garden. I collected the deceased and saved them in a jar. I thought about how the Monarchs are migrants and what it would look like if we tried to jail them too. Jailing migrants, human or insect, is not a solution to a biological reality.
